Ingredients
8–10 fresh ripe figs, ½ cup ricotta cheese, zest of 1 orange, 1–2 tsp fresh orange juice, ¼ cup toasted pecans, finely chopped, 2–3 tsp maple syrup plus extra for drizzling, 1 pinch cinnamon or nutmeg (optional), fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional), and sea salt flakes for finishing (optional).
Method
Begin by preparing the ricotta filling. In a small bowl, combine the ricotta with the orange zest, orange juice, maple syrup, and a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg if using. Stir until smooth and creamy, then taste and adjust the sweetness as desired.
Gently wash and dry the figs. Using a small knife, cut an “X” at the top of each fig, slicing about halfway down without cutting all the way through. Lightly squeeze the base of each fig to open the top and create a small pocket.
Spoon 1–2 teaspoons of the ricotta mixture into each fig. Sprinkle with the finely chopped toasted pecans and drizzle lightly with extra maple syrup.
Finish with fresh mint leaves and a light touch of sea salt flakes if desired. Serve immediately as a refreshing starter or a simple, elegant dessert.
